Over the past 18 months, we tried to give the average Australian a chance to buy global equities without getting punished by high fees and brokerage costs.

We spent 18 months attempting to take a revolutionary product into Australia’s extremely tough financial services sector. We knew it wasn’t going to be easy but that did not deter us in our goal to give everyday people a more democratised investment solution.

As of this month, we’re taking Whaley offline. In the end it came down to the costs of operating a high-growth business in one of the toughest and most regulated markets in the world.

With that in mind, there are a few other Australian Startups that are giving this problem a proper, red-hot go. If you’re looking at using a service not too dissimilar to Whaley, take a look at the following:

1. Stake. https://stake.com.au

Stake gives users the ability to trade US stocks, brokerage free. They’re run by an awesome team who are doing great things with a shit-hot product.

2. Goodments. https://goodments.com

Goodments give users the ability to invest brokerage-free in companies based on your ethical profile. They’re backed by H2 Ventures and have a killer team with awesome ambition.

3. Robinhood (if you’re in the USA) https://robinhood.com

Like Stake, Robinhood give brokerage-free trading in US markets. You need to be a US citizen however to use Robinhood.

To everyone that supported us over the past 18 months, thank you! We’ve learned a lot thanks to the ongoing feedback and commitment from our thousands of early-users.

If we try to revive Whaley in the future, you’ll be the first to know.

Thank you again,

Sam & Matt
